{"id":199,"date":"2017-04-01T00:44:44","date_gmt":"2017-04-01T00:44:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hiflyn.com\/?p=199"},"modified":"2023-03-03T15:54:35","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T15:54:35","slug":"outside-magazine-podcast-with-joe-stone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hiflyn.com\/index.php\/outside-magazine-podcast-with-joe-stone\/","title":{"rendered":"Outside Magazine podcast with Joe Stone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/itsrainingsowhat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Edit-suite1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-866 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/itsrainingsowhat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Edit-suite1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Edit suite1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h5>Trying to fit 4 years into 87 minutes:<\/h5>\n<p>One of the great challenges of producing a documentary is trying to include enough detail to\u00a0respectfully and authentically tell a story, while also keeping the story engaging and moving. \u00a0I first met Joe in summer of 2012 and over the next four years we filmed hundreds of hours of footage and dozens of interviews which were eventually had to be edited down an 87 minute film.<\/p>\n<p>My greatest personal struggle\u00a0during the process was that so much of the\u00a0great content about Joe and his story had to end\u00a0up on the cutting room floor during the edit because we just couldn&#8217;t include it all. If we had it probably would have been a 30 part docu-series!<\/p>\n<h5>The rest of the story:<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/itsrainingsowhat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Peter-Frick-Wright3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-872 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/itsrainingsowhat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Peter-Frick-Wright3-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Peter Frick-Wright3\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Enter,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/30minuteswest.org\/about-podcast-30mw\/\">Peter Frick-Wright<\/a>\u00a0a writer, creator, producer, storyteller, and radio maker from the Pacific Northwest. He\u2019s a graduate of the Salt Institute, where they teach radio storytelling, and also a mountain biker,\u00a0bug-eater, and frequent contributor to Sierra, Men\u2019s Journal, Outside, and Bike.<\/p>\n<p>Peter had been producing a podcast series called\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/30minuteswest.org\/\">Thirsty Minutes West<\/a>\u00a0aka\u00a0<strong>30|m|w<\/strong>\u00a0 and recently joined up with Outside magazine to launch\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/outside-podcast\/id1090500561\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Outside Podcast<\/a>. The first miniseries is on the\u00a0<strong><em>Science of Survival<\/em><\/strong>, which\u00a0is just like it sounds: stories of life and death, specifically how our bodies respond to heat, cold, being struck by lightning, and being trapped underwater.<\/p>\n<p>We were thrilled to learn that Peter had connected with Joe last fall, just as we were completing the final production of It&#8217;s Raining, So What. When I listened to them for the first time I was in awe at the level of detailed storytelling and knowing Joe, his family and Amy as well as I do, I could visualize every moment of our journey\u00a0all over again. I actually had the thought at one point that this would make a great movie some day!<\/p>\n<h5>Like what you heard?
